Data Exchange Methods in Distributed Embedded Systems

摘要

The design process and implementation of the distributed embedded systems is often complicated and requires long time for a large number of end modules operating in the system. Furthermore, using many end modules in a complex distributed system can directly lead to a significant load and consequently, to an overload of the communication interfaces. It is important to seek maximum savings in transmitted data amount between system modules. This chapter presents a comparison of popular control methods and communication protocols which are commonly used in the industry and performance analysis, with the protocol proposed by authors, called CloudBus. The proposed protocol allows a significant reduction in the amount of data transmitted between modules, when compared with other protocols such as Modbus RTU, De-viceNet and Profibus-DP. The distributed embedded system based on the CloudBus protocol can be a cheap and effective alternative to expensive and complex PLC systems.
