Laser instabilities; a modern perspective

摘要

The objective of this paper was to provide a review of laser instabilities from a modern perspective. Since semiconductor and fiber lasers have matured only over the Last 10-15 years, we focused heavily on them, while introducing new developments relevant to the field of laser instabilities. We have chosen not to include spatial and polarization instabilities in this review and only make a few remarks at relevant places. In Section 2 we show how the well-known Lorenz-Haken model of laser Instabilities is obtained from the Maxwell-Bloch equations, which describe the Dynamics of a two-level system interacting with light.
