Reflections on the introduction of an art group into the day unit of a specialist palliative care unit

I sat in on the first newly formed art group with a few day unit patients as a participant-observer and introduced myself as a member of staff who was joining in with the group to experience it myself and 'to see how it goes'. I had no expectations of what might happen, or whether any of the patients would continue with this new activity.
