Motives for Hospice – Then and NownWhy did you decide to work in hospice? This is not anquestion that I have just invented for this evening. It isna question posed by the University of London Schoolnof History for a Witness Seminar held at the end ofnFebruary. The aim of this was to begin to documentnthe history of Hospice and Palliative Care and aboutn30 people were invited to attend. The first topic wasn‘Doctors in hospices: why did they choose to work inna hospice?’ I was asked to lead off on this subjectnand, rather than just give my views, I wrote to 33ndoctors who had trained at St Christopher’s before formalizedntraining had started and asked them why theynhad decided to do this work.
