This is an unconventional book that does much to demonstrate that publishing on issues of development does not need to follow a conventional academic style to be successful. Former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and current academic Ramesh Thakur has compiled a series of his short articles written for leading newspapers to form a highly effective account of the events and crises that shaped the evolution of the responsibility to protect (R2P) doctrine, set against attempts by both the United Nations and the United States to achieve some form of global governance.
