Single-source publishing with XML

Companies can offer levels of customization along with the ability to retarget or repurpose materials in ways that were impractical or even impossible just five years ago. The net result is that companies with information stores can now create new sources of revenue while managing their existing data more efficiently. The key technology that makes this possible, Extensible Markup Language (XML), has received tremendous publicity over the past couple of years. The difference now, however, is that software vendors have integrated XML into their products, giving companies a chance to test concepts and design systems-level strategies that take advantage of XML. The industry is deploying the first wave of applications that use XML and related technologies. The paper summarizes some characteristics of these tools. Single source publishing can help organizations reuse content easily and quickly.
