This week the driving test in the UK should become the first in the world to incorporate a hazard perception test with moving images. Government research shows that one in five drivers have an accident in the first year after their test and that these drivers can take up to two seconds longer than experienced drivers to spot a hazardous situation. The hope is that, by improving the hazard recognition skills of learners through the use of these video clips, the number of deaths on the roads, now averaging just under 10 every day, will be reduced.
