Critics slam 'over-optimistic' report on nuclear build skills

A report from the nuclear industry's trade association which says that the industry is ready to build new power stations has been criticised as "overly optimistic" and "inaccurate". The UK Capability to Deliver a Nuclear New Build Programme, published by the Nuclear Industries Association (NIA), reports that the UK could supply 80% of a new nuclear build programme by using less than 5% of current construction resources. The report has been criticised by some, who point out that there will be many large construction projects competing for workers by the proposed new nuclear build starting date of 2013. The report is also said to possess some glaring inaccuracies. It illustrates increased recruitment in the construction sector by quoting the Engineering Construction Industry Trading Board (ECITB) as having "tripled its apprentice intake over the last two years to about 1,000".
