Second subsea power cable will link Finland and Sweden

Cable maker Nexans is to manufacture and install a high-voltage direct-current submarine power cable linking Finland and Sweden. The €150 million Fenno-Skan 2 HVDC project will create an 800MW, 500kV subsea electricity transmission connection between southern Finland and Sweden, following a 200km route below the Gulf of Bothnia. It will form a bipolar arrangement with the existing 550MW, 400kV Fenno-Skan link, commissioned in 1989, providing a 40% increase in power transmission capacity between the two countries.
