British engineering is still the best in the world but that message is not getting through to the public. There is a kind of expectation that excellence will speak for itself; that people will look at the amazing technology of the modern world and immediately want to be part of the community that created it. But this isn't happening, and engineers need to start bragging about and promoting their own industry, their needs and desires, to redress this imbalance.
