There are few experiences more painful than being labelled dysfunctional. To be called that by one of your most precious customers in the middle of a bitter contest for multimillion dollar orders makes it even worse. So it is little wonder that Boeing, the world's leading aircraft manufacturer, is still smarting after United Airlines' officials gave the Seattle-based company a terse dressing down, labelling it a "dysfunctional organisation" that was over-obsessed with cutting costs and not concerned enough with quality standards.
