The arrival of Charles Parsons' steam turbine yacht Turbinia among Admiralty warships of the 1897 Spithead fleet review is one of the more colourful events in engineering history. The small vessel outpaced its larger naval cousins in a cheeky demonstration of turbine superiority over conventional maritime power.
