Small plants grow into big business

The future of the process industry could lie in small consumer-friendly plants. Michael Kenward explains. Designers of process plants should forget about massive chemical complexes with miles of plumbing that cover many hectares of land and churn out products in thousands of tonnes. Think small, they are being urged. Build "neighbourhood" facilities that can deliver highly customised products directly to the consumer.
