Firstly as a contractor you may have difficulty in demonstrating any relevant managerial experience. Managing yourself is not the same as managing a group of people, even though you need some inter-personal skills to be a contractor. Secondly you need to be able to assimilate the company's culture, which you will have to learn on the job. This means that your effectiveness as a manager will be low until the learning process is complete.
