Previous AI processors are often too expensive for use in simple end devices. XMOS has therefore developed the inexpensive "crossover" processor "xcore.ai". It combines four function blocks on one chip: a core specialized in AI inference calculations, a digital signal processor (DSP), an application processor for time-critical control functions, and an FPGA for providing flexibly programmable I/O interfaces. Despite the wide range of functions offered, the device is expected to cost only about 1 US dollar.
