Storage of particulate solids in silos is ubiquitous in many plants in the chemical process industries (food, energy, chemical, pharmaceutical, and others). Many of these particulate solids (e.g., powders, pellets, granules, and bulk solids) are combustible and/ or self-heating. Because of this, fires in silos are quite often a common occurrence.
