Making a Case for Chillers

A properly designed refrigerated liquid chiller offers the ability to easily provide close temperature control of the process coolant. Temperature tolerances of ±1℉ (±0.56℃) are possible. Close temperature control would be desirable in applications where thermal growth of a part, die or tool could cause tolerances to change, resulting in defective products. Examples of manufacturing operations or processes that require close temperature control include: 1. Cutting to size silicon crystals used in the manufacture of computer chips. 2. Cooling dies used in an extruding process. 3. Cooling machine-tool spindles and cutting oils used to manufacture close-tolerance parts.
