摘要

This work presents the results of several studies of the consequences of Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) for both Russian producers and consumers. Branches of industry and the services sector were examined. The following basic results were obtained. A reduction in tariffs on durable consumer goods by 5 percent may lead to reductions in household expenditure on these goods between 7 percent (for fabrics) and 22 percent (for transportation equipment), depending on the kind of good. Aggregate expenditure per household member on eight groups of commodities, expenditures on which comprise about 70 percent of all expenditures on nonfood goods, will fall by 540 rubles per year. This may have serious consequences for the welfare of the poorest families.
