The Spatial Concept of International Economic Relations as a Theoretical Basis for the Development of Interregional Cooperation Within the Framework of Integration Processes in the CIS

Despite the active involvement of regions in world economic exchange, contemporary theory of the processes of economic and political integration takes little account of spatial regularities in the development of international economic ties. Theoretical analysis of interregional economic cooperation does not, as a rule, incorporate the territorial determinant of these relations, and the mechanism for establishing them takes account of the regional content of economic integration in a basically haphazard fashion. All this makes it expedient and important to create a specific theoretical basis for the development of various regional forms of international economic cooperation that would reflect the role of space in this process.
