It is my great pleasure and a great honour to congratulate the Japanese Society of Precision Engineering to its 75th anniversary. The JSPE has gained worldwide highest reputation in manufacturing engineering, in particular with focus on precision engineering aspects. The society as an institution and their representing members have at all times and continuously contributed to solve up-to date and highly relevant questions in engineering.rnSince the beginning of this century, the world has consolidated politically and economically. Boundaries are falling. New industrial nations are appearing on the horizon. Economical integration is becoming more intensive. Moreover, it is becoming clear for the first time that important resources of raw materials will be exhausted within a relatively short amount of time. While the range of resources is limited, the need for them is at the same time constantly increasing. This accentuates the question of resources even further. Where is a sustainable equilibrium to be found when faced with such dilemmas? Production concepts of the future do have to meet requirements of economy of scale as well as needs of economy of scope.
