The authors are to be commended for their thorough compilation of test results for large wind missile impact resistance of wall and roof assemblies. The discussers obtained similar results for brick veneer and fiber-cement (Hardieboard) on 1/2 in. (13 mm) oriented strand board (OSB) backing (Bennett et al. 2006). The brick veneer specimens were able to resist the impact of a 2×4 in., 4.1 kg (9 lb) missile at 55 km/h (34 mph), while the fiber-cement siding was not. The discussers varied the speed of the 2×4 in. missile to find the perforation speed. The perforation speed for the fiber-cement siding was 40 km/h (25 mph) and the perforation speed for the brick veneer was in excess of 129 km/h (80 mph).
