The Annual Byrne-Bussey Marconi Lecture - How Marconi did not invent broadcasting!

The Byrne-Bussey Marconi Lecture this year, was presented at Convocation House, The Bodleian Library in Oxford on Marconi Day itself-April 20th. The lecture was presented by Dr Gabriele Balbi, the 2012 Douglas Byrne Marconi Fellow. Dr Balbi presented his talk entitled How Marconi did not invent broadcasting. Expanding on this he explained the dichotomy between point-to-point communication and broadcasting. Dr. Balbi explained that In the early days of Marconi's work, at least, all the work was concentrated on point-to-point communications for the purpose of carrying news. Marconi himself was quoted as saying "I did not realise I was holding a priceless fortune in broadcasting"- instead the company was concentrating on improving the secrecy of their point-to-point communications.
