In the Russian electric grids, AS-type wires are gradually replaced with wires of new generation (NGW). The wire market has currently offered a wide range of NGWs manufactured in Russia and abroad. Foreign-made wires, as well as wires produced in Russia using western technologies, are of a totally new level, have better performance properties, yet a high cost. The production of NGWs in Russia has been developing, and there are products that are not inferior to the world standards. This article describes aluminum alloys that have undergone severe plastic deformation and annealing, have qualitatively new electrical and mechanical characteristics, and are planned to be used to manufacture NGWs. Issues of design of wires based on such alloys and determination of the current-carrying capacity and other characteristics of designed wires are considered.
