Over the Last Three Years, the Economic and Political Turmoil Experienced in Some Southeast Asian countries has caused the electric power market to stagnate. With demand for electric power getting smaller, many Asian countries now have an excess of capacity. As southeast Asia enters the new millennium, the area continues to be the largest market for new electric capacity. Globally there is a need to add 695,000 MW of new capacity through 2007. Asian countries will account for 53 percent of the total.
