Reliant Brings Peaking Power to Northern Illinois

The cold, snow-filled winter of 2000-2001 did not deter Reliant Energy from meeting a June 1 deadline to have its 950 MW (nominal) power plant operational in Aurora, Illinois. The single-fuel, natural gas-fired simple cycle facility is located in DuPage County, approximately 35 miles from downtown Chicago. The peaking plant will ultimately contain 10 GE gas turbine-generator sets. Currently, six GE LM6000 aeroderivative and three GE 7FA gas turbine-generator sets are in service. The tenth unit - another 7FA gas turbine - will be operational as planned by spring 2002.
