摘要

With the yucca mountain geologic repository for spent nuclear fuel not expected to be available until at least 2010, nuclear power plant owners are increasingly looking at on-site dry cask storage. Utilities are facing a thorny problem in managing the highly radioactive fuel that is discharged from reactors used to generate electricity. The utilities, design firms, industry groups, legislators, community leaders, and manufacturers of specialized fuel storage containers are working together to ensure that the country's nuclear power plants stay on line producing electricity and preventing any further deterioration of the country's electric power supply.
