摘要

A variety of energy issues have forced Finland to make critical decisions related to energy dependence, fuel diversity, renewable energy, and nuclear power. The resolve shown by this nation of 5.2 million is admirable, and warrants wider imitation. Finns are an intelligent and independent lot. During World War II, the small Scandinavian country escaped the clutches of both Hitler and Stalin. The invading Russian Army proved no match for the brutal cold, deep snow and Finns hurling Molotov cocktails at superior weaponry. After the war, Finland was among the few European countries that refused Marshall Plan aid, further attesting to their native self-reliance.
