The time has come to persuade owners, developers and project financiers that the engineer-procure-construct (EPC) contract is no longer the best delivery system for building the next crop of coal-fired power plants. Alliance contracting represents a viable, proven alternative to adversarial business-as-usual contracts. A recent survey of 350 senior executives in real estate and construction by Deloitte & Touche's Construction Advisory Services Practice Group found that nearly one-half of the respondents reported an increase in construction related disputes over the past several years. The survey also found that the disputes were much more prevalent on complex projects costing more than USD100 million.
