QUALITY TOOL NEEDS FOSTER SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP

When FirstEnergy Corp. was reviewing tool companies with which to form a partnership, it focused on two things: product quality and cost effectiveness. As contracts with vendor partners were soon going to expire, FirstEnergy began developing a new sourcing strategy that would help the company improve efficiency. With a well-planned process and careful analysis, FirstEnergy chose to establish a partnership with Wright Tool Co., Barberton, Ohio. At the onset of the contracts expiring, the utility formed a cross-functional tool team to review potential partners. FirstEnergy currently has 20 other partnerships for company needs, such as poles, safety items, respirators and MRO commodities. The team consisted of various FirstEnergy business units, representing each type of power plant (combustion turbine, fossil, nuclear) and energy delivery.
