Westinghouse, like many companiesrnin the nuclear industry, is facingrnone of its most positive challengesrnin decades-satisfying the growingrnpains of this rapid resurgence withrnlarge numbers of skilled talent.rnWith several orders for constructionrnof AP1000 power plants in China and the U.S., and promises ofrnmore orders globally, Westinghouse has hired 3,000 workers overrnthe past few years and from more than just the engineering ranks.rnRecognizing the necessity for skilled craft workers,rnWestinghouse expanded its WEC Welding Institute in RockrnHill, S.C., to train more welders. WEC Welding and MachiningrnPresident Jimmy Morgan told visitors during a recent openrnhouse that Westinghouse is "taking the lead in training the nextrngeneration of pipe welders to satisfy the current national shortagernand demand for future energy needs." The institute increased thernnumber of student welding booths from 50 to 74 so that morernstudents can be trained for welding careers.
