Vestas to Reduce Work Force by 10 percent

Vestas Wind Systems, one of the world's biggest manufacturers of wind turbines, announced plans to lay off 2,335 people worldwide and warned that an additional 1,600 jobs in the U.S. could be at risk if Congress does not extend the production tax credit. Denmark-based Vestas said the layoffs were part of efforts to reduce fixed costs by more than $191 million as it deals with competition and a market slowdown following the global recession in 2008-2009.
