Northeast Oklahoma's Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) selected Black & Veatch to providen engineering services for a 495-MW combined cycle unit near Chouteau, Oklahoma. The project will feature a 328-MW gas turbine known as the 501J and a 167-MW steam turbine from Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems. It will be the first J-series gas turbine installed in the Western Hemisphere. The unit will replace an old coal-fired unit at the Grand River Energy Center. Black & Veatch will provide permitting, engineering, and procurement services for the project. The new gas-fired unit will be built next to two coal-fired units. The project, which includes a new substation, is expected to be completed in 2017.
