Currently, the Powder Diffraction File (PDF-4) Organics product contains over 350 000 entries of organic compounds that are not located in a specified subfile. Subfile classifications are extremely beneficial for PDF-4 users as they allow a convenient method of filtering through the vast number of reference patterns during the search/match process. The "Trade names Project" was developed with the idea to classify many of these unspecified organic materials into appropriate subfiles; placing specific interest on pharmaceutical and bioactive materials. Since their time of initial publication in PDF-4, various compounds have acquired trade names and are now commercially available drugs.
