Reining in the Net

To millions both inside and outside China, the Internet represents a beacon of hope that China will join the community of free-thinking and free-speaking nations. The Chinese government will have none of it-at least for now. Though China has about 20 Internet service providers and at least six international links connect Chinese networks to the global Internet, the flow of messages and information is anything but free.
