What's this? Pickup truck racing? Well, why not? After all, NASCAR'S Craftsman Truck championship isn't the first racing series for pickup trucks. The amateur Sports Car Club of America pioneered the concept in the late '80s with compact pickups racing primarily on road circuits, but the series disappeared after three seasons. Built around that most American of all vehicles, the full-size pickup, NASCAR's truck series shows no signs of disappearing. On the contrary. As it enters its third season, this new series has already become one of NASCAR's most successful, spiced with spot appearances by Winston Cup driving stars and campaigned by a mix of veterans and young Winston Cup hopefuls.
