Come November 1, the United States will embark on a transition that some have likened to the change from horse-drawn buggies to automobiles—one that will ultimately require everyone in the country to replace their TV. That's the day broadcasters will switch on the juice for digital television (DTV) transmissions that have been more than a deqade in coming. The technology promises to bring to the living room the film-quality pictures and cine matic surround sound that audiences pay to experience in movies such as Titanic at theaters equipped with cutting-edge technology.
