Venice Sloshes Toward Salvation

The summertime floods that brought death and destruc-tion to central Europe provided a cold, wet, worldwide wakeup call on the effects of climate change. Scientists say we may never know how much, if any, of the recent crisis was wrought by global warming. But they add that rising temperatures will bring many more such disasters if we don't act fast. The place that needs to act fastest is Venice.
