In summer1968,1 was standing in my driveway in Hamilton, Ontario, when I spotted a brilliant light in the sky and knew it was a satellite. I was a pathetic math student-I had just failed my first year of high school. But I was keenly interested in science and space. So I tried to calculate "my" satellite's orbit. By sheer luck, my shaky math worked out: The next night, the spacecraft reappeared right where I had predicted.
