POLYAMIDE-6/CLAY NANOCOMPOSITES: A CRITICAL REVIEW

This review describes the current research situation with regard to polyamide-6/clay nanocomposites, with particular reference to preparation, processing and application issues. The preparation and processing of polyamide-6/clay nanocomposites is discussed with reference to intercalation and exfoliation, polymorphism, polymer/clay interactions, organo-modification, compatibilisers, and thermal degradation. Properties and areas of end-use application are described for automotive parts, barrier layers in packaging, flame retardant materials, membranes and textiles. 79 refs.
