Synthesis and Thermal Properties of Polyimide/BaZrO3 Novel Nanocomposites

Polyimide/barium zirconate composites (PI/BZO) were successfully synthesized through thermal imidization. In this process, different contents of BZO suspensions (5, 10, 15 vol.%) in poly amic acid (PAA) solution, were imidized by heat treatment to form PI/BZO nanocomposites. The as-synthesized hybrid nanocomposites were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Nanoparticles of BaZrO3 were dispersed homogeneously in the polyimide matrix. Glass transition temperature, T g , and Heat Capacity were measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The glass transition temperature of PI/BZO nanocomposites was higher than that for the pure polyimide.
