Prototype FBR 'Monju' to Resume Operation after a Long Interval

The prototype fast breeder reactor (FBR) "Monju," which was closed down due to a sodium leak accident in December 1995, is expected to resume operation by March 2010. Although it had been scheduled to resume operation from February 2009, this was postponed due to malfunctions with the sodium leakage detector and outdoor ventilation duct. The inspection of the sodium leakage detector was completed this February, and repairs on the outdoor air duct were completed this May. In addition, confirmation was made of aseismic safety, and the national government completed its special security inspection.
