Coal retirements to continue driving record Southeast gas burn this summer

Coal-plant retirements in the US Southeast are driving record gas demand from the region's power generators in 2018 and are forecast to help summer demand grow at the fastest pace of any US region. Through early March, power burn demand in the Southeast has averaged 8.3 Bcf/d, the highest first quarter average to date on record, S&P Global Platts Analytics data shows.
