California utilities propose to spend $4B to prevent wildfires

At the behest of state lawmakers and regulators, California's investorownedutilities on February 6 filed their 2019 wildfire safety plans.In those plans, Pacific Gas and Electric, San Diego Gas & Electricand Southern California Edison detailed $4 billion in strategicinvestments aimed at preventing the kind of catastrophic blazesthat engulfed large swaths of the Golden State in 2017 and 2018,many of which have been linked to utility power lines in addition toclimate change.
