TVA to submit regulatory framework for Watts Bar-2 to NRC in January

The Tennessee Valley Authority is on schedule to submit to NRC in January a proposed regulatory framework for licensing its Watts Bar-2 reactor, TVA officials told agency staff earlier this month. Watts Bar-2, a 1,200-MW PWR, was about 60% complete when work stopped 22 years ago, and its original construction permit is valid until the end of 2010. TVA's board of directors voted in August to complete the reactor at an estimated cost of $2.49 billion (INRC, 20 Aug., 1).
