摘要

With increased interest in uranium recovery activities, the NRC might want to re-establish a field office in the West, NRC Commissioner Kristine Svinicki indicated at a recent public meeting. She agreed that having a presence there might be a good way to manage the increasing number of uranium applications in the western states. "I pledge to do some more thinking about that," she said at a December 11 meeting. NRC used to have a uranium recovery field office in Denver to handle licensing activities relating to uranium mills' in-situ mining operations and disposal of uranium mill tailings and waste. When the office closed in 1994, the licensing work was moved to NRC's headquarters in Rockville, Maryland and the inspection activities were transferred to the agency's Region IV office in Arlington, Texas.
