摘要

Science Applications International Corp. jeopardized NRC's credibility and undermined its mission by conducting business and maintaining connections with companies that would benefit from a rulemaking that SAIC was helping the agency develop, a government attorney asserted July 1 in federal court. Four years after the NRC filed suit against SAIC seeking nearly $3 million in damages, the case moved to a jury trial in Washington, DC. In opening arguments, US Attorney Donald Williamson said NRC had relied on SAIC for "expert, scientific advice" on a rule the agency was considering after a previous attempt to develop the rule failed. Under contract, SAIC was to develop the technical basis underpinning a possible standard for the release of radiologically contaminated materials.
