UK safety regulators seek contractors to help with new licensing workload

The UK's Health and Safety Executive last week issued a notice seeking technical support to enable its overstretched nuclear regulatory team to complete new reactor design assessment work around 2010-2011. In its June 2 procurement notice, HSE said it is seeking to enter into a "framework," or umbrella agreement, with several suppliers to provide technical support for assessment work and also to assist with "the subsequent site specific licensing process" for new reactors chosen for construction. Technical support "may also be required for the delivery of the nuclear directorate's program of work with existing licensees," it said.
