The US uranium sector goal of a federal stockpile of nuclear fuelcame one step closer to becoming reality after legislationestablishing the reserve cleared a key Senate panel with bipartisansupport.The US Senate Environment and Public Works Committee onDec. 2 advanced by a vote of 16-5 the American NuclearInfrastructure Act of 2020, S. 4897, a measure that would makesweeping investments in the nuclear power space, includingestablishment of a tax credit program for reactors at risk of closuredue to poor economic conditions. The bill would also compel thegovernment to create a federal uranium reserve, which USproducers of the metal have said is needed to avoid a total collapsein domestic uranium production.
