Construction request for French waste repository expected in 2021: Andra

A request for permission to start construction of the Cigeo repository inFrance for disposal of high- and intermediate-level waste will besubmitted to the government for approval in 2021, director general of theAndra, the organization in charge of building the facility, said Nov. 12.Pierre-Marie Abadie spoke in Paris during a webinar organized bythe pro-nuclear non-governmental organization Entretiens Europeens.The total cost of the Cigeo project is estimated to be aroundEur25 billion ($29.07 billion), Abadie said. He noted that therepository will be constructed incrementally over 120 years as morewaste is generated and requires disposal space.
