NRC issues violation to Entergy for Arkansas Nuclear One security incident

NRC has issued a notice of violation to Entergy Operations as a result of an October 2018 security-related incident at the company's Arkansas Nuclear One plant, the agency said in a letter to Entergy Sept. 23. The notice was issued for violation of security regulations after Entergy reported to NRC that four contractor supervisors at the plant had “deliberately” chosen not to inform plant security of the discovery of unauthorized ammunition in the plant’s protected area. The agency in the letter said it would not assess Entergy a $150,000 civil penalty specified for Severity Level Ⅲ violations under NRC enforcement policy, because it credited Entergy for identifying the violation during an interview with an individual involved in the violation, as well as for implementing prompt and comprehensive corrective actions. Severity levels in NRC's enforcement policy range from Ⅳ for violations of more than minor concern to I for the most significant violations.
